![]() ![]() ![]() I've tested a few apps via overlay, IE/Edge, Chrome, Window Media Player, VLC and Notepad. When watching video via Plex in the browser it was less than smooth (but very watchable) The framerate for the overlay app isn't great, I saw between 20-40 FPS via the counter in OVRDDP. For example when you open the Galaxy Map you'll see a glitch of the Steam VR environment (at least I do). Nothing completely broken, just odd little glitches here and there. I've seen many minor visual glitches running Elite via Steam VR. While this doesn't seem to affect the framerate of Elite I am running an i7 4770k (3.5Ghz), 32GB Ram, Zotac Extreme GTX 1080 I also use it to watch videos which is great when you're doing longer tasks such as mining or long exploration trips.įrom this point forward OpenVRDesktopDisplayPortal will be referred to as simply "OVRDDP" This is useful for a number of things, personally I use it to show an in-game browser so I can use various online tools without breaking immersion and having to take my Rift off and on. This will allow you to take virtually any Windows application and "overlay" it into the VR environment, specifically in Elite Dangerous. (Yes, it's fairly crappy quality but you'll get the idea) Huge thanks goes to fellow Reddit user / Elite CMDR MBoffin ( /u/mboffin) as he and I worked together to create this guide using him as the first test, I'm happy to say it worked perfectly for him as well so we're both enjoying having a browser built into Elite. This is what it looks like in my headset and I can promise you this absolutely works. As there has been a lot of speculation that this actually works, with some even calling /u/fdsprod a liar below is a screenshot I captured using the Mirror function in Steam VR. Credit goes to Reddit user /u/fdsprod for being the first to make this work and for providing the tips I needed to work out this guide.
